THE BOARD
When I first started working on the log-opoly concept I thought that it would be a great idea to have a series of caches and a bonus. Finding these caches would give the players points. In order to involve players from further afield I devised the difficulty/terrain boxes where finding caches of the appropriate difficulty or terrain (and in some cases of a certain type of cache) would also gain the participants points. To acknowledge those that like to find the high numbers I thought that being able to multiply the given difficulty or terrain number on the board by the missing number, (in the case of a Difficulty 4 cache then look for the highest terrain D4 cache which you have found and multiply the two numbers together.
The table at the foot of the page illustrates the colour sets and also the maximum number of points available to a player who is able to show that they have the highest Difficulty/Terrain number (5) to multiply against the shown boxes. I will be surprised if even the most accomplished grid filler can claim maximum points.
The original concept then started to 'morph', (especially after discussing it with reviewers) and as a result I submitted a challenge cache, (now published) and the series caches and bonus will be published from August 1st onwards. The series will consist of a variety of unconnected caches (not in one area), finding the caches will gain points that can be added to those acquired for the challenge.
The empty boxes will eventually fill up with red numbers, this will indicate how many caches have been published in the series. The links to the published caches can be found on the series page.
The table below explains the set combinations and, when completed, the maximum number of points that you can obtain (see guidelines for scoring). I have included a column which shows my current totals - it took me about 30 minutes to go through my stats on the GC.com website and also check some of the combinations on the iPhone app too - and then come up with the total. I was quite surprised, but know that I have to target a couple of hard to find caches to significantly increase my points.
NOTE : If you are just starting out on your obsession and have gaps to fill, and are local to Notts, don't worry, finding the caches in the associated series will be worth lots of points and have you competing with the 'grid fillers' on the leaderboard.
Remember, it's just for FUN..... (and a couple of prizes!)
